Technology

Manufacturing Process:

  • Melting: Vacuum induction melting (VIM) followed by electro-slag remelting (ESR) to minimize impurities (S, P < 0.015%).

  • Hot/Cold Working: Hot-rolled bars are cold-drawn to precise tolerances (±0.02 mm) using multi-pass dies.

  • Heat Treatment: Solution annealing at 925-980°C with water quenching to dissolve secondary phases and optimize ductility.

  • Surface Treatment: Electrolytic polishing or bright annealing in hydrogen to enhance surface smoothness.

Theory

The alloy’s superior performance stems from its balanced metallurgical design:

  • Nickel Matrix: High Ni content stabilizes the austenitic structure, ensuring ductility and resistance to reducing acids.

  • Molybdenum & Copper Synergy: Mo provides resistance to chloride-induced SCC, while Cu enhances sulfuric acid corrosion resistance.

  • Titanium Stabilization: Ti combines with carbon to form TiC, preventing chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries (sensitization).

  • Passive Oxide Layer: Cr and Mo synergistically form a Cr-Mo-O passive film, self-repairing in aggressive media like hot hydrochloric acid.

  • Phase Stability: Low carbon content (<0.05%) and Ti addition suppress sigma-phase formation, retaining toughness in welded structures.
