Press Brake Bending Procedures
The bending procedure is the core operation of any press brake requiring precision control and careful execution to produce quality bent workpieces.
Workpiece Placement and Alignment
Place the metal sheet on the press brake worktable ensuring both ends are properly aligned with the dies. Use positioning devices such as back gauges to achieve accurate workpiece positioning. Verify the workpiece is stable and will not shift during the bending operation. Check that the material surface is clean and free from defects that could affect bending quality.
Executing the Bend
Start the machine and observe its operation to ensure smooth running without abnormal noise or vibration. During the bending process the upper die gradually descends to apply bending force. Monitor the process to ensure uniform force distribution across the workpiece. For multiple bend operations adjust angles and positions according to process requirements completing all bends in the correct sequence. Always keep hands away from the die working area during operation.
Workpiece Removal and Quality Check
After bending is complete stop the machine and carefully remove the workpiece to avoid surface damage. Use measuring tools such as angle gauges and calipers to verify the bending angle meets design specifications. Inspect the workpiece surface for cracks creases scratches or indentations. Check dimensional accuracy to confirm it falls within acceptable tolerance ranges. Document inspection results for quality control records.
Adjustment and Correction
If the bending angle or dimensions do not meet requirements adjust press brake parameters such as pressure angle settings or die position based on inspection results. Perform trial bends with scrap material to verify parameter adjustments before continuing production. Regular monitoring of bend quality helps identify trending issues before they result in rejected parts.
